Here are some behind the scenes images from my friend Fahamu’s video production for his project “All That Glitters Ain’t Goals”. It was a long day but it was great to be amongst friends and surrounded by so much creativity! I had a blast. Enjoy!

Tattoo Tiff!

Nothing says fine art like a little irreversible skin paint. I’m a HUGE fan of artistry of all mediums…and I’m especially a fan of dope tattoos.

My friend Tiffany “Buttafly” Burns is a living, breathing, walking skin art gallery. She has quite a few INCREDIBLE tats from quite a few INCREDIBLE artists. Just the other day, I tagged along with her to get her latest addition to her body canvas. We traveled all the way to the south side to visit her old friend Randy at Tattoos and Piercing by Randy. I have a few tattoos myself, and even though I KNOW they hurt, there is something very addictive about them.

My girl Tiff is a trooper. Her visit to Randy was to work on the half sleeve that she’s getting over time. Randy was the perfect go to for the job. His detail work and shading is INSANE. He was meticulous and he actually worked pretty fast (if you can call 4 hours fast…).

It wasn’t hurting too bad at this point, she was doing great!

The endorphin release is starting to wear off here…she’s starting to feel it…

I vividly remember as a growing child that I would miss out on a LOT of outside play time because my room often resembled the scattered thoughts that took over my brain space. I mean, my room was always a MESS and I would straighten things up only when it became too much for ME to deal with. Usually that meant me having to negotiate through the obstacle course just to get to my comfy bed at night. Needless to say, this pissed my parents OFF (ask them, they’ll tell ya). Well, fast forward 20 something years and my home creative space is quite reminiscent of the days of old. It’s always one of those things that I always put on the agenda, but never quite get all the way to it! Cleaning that damn room…

Meet my friend Ebony Mackey. This woman heard my cries for organizational help, came to my home and CHANGED MY LIFE! I have to say, that when I visit Eb’s adorable little condo it ALWAYS looks like a page out of some trendy, urban loft magazine. Everything is always where it’s supposed to be. Nothing like my home…clearly.

Anyhoo, I just want to give you all some idea how awesome this lady is. I personally think that she should quit her job to organize and design spaces for a living (hint hint)…she’s that good.

She clearly has a lot of work on her hands here! (yikes!)

She was working so fast and focused that I felt like I was in the way…so I took pics.

She found things in that room that I hadn’t seen in years (oops).

WOW…look at the progress!

She did a great job and I’m SOOOOOOOOOOO glad she did it! If you have a mess as big as mine, send her an email…i’m sure she’ll give you a good price if you tell her I sent you!

So, I was going through some of my older images and began thinking to myself that I used to be more aggressive in terms of shooting. I was hungry to shoot any and everywhere I could get access to with my trusty camera. Because of my loyal friends Mortgage and Grocery Bill, I’ve had to focus a LOT of my energy on “shoot for pay” gigs, I forgot how fun it was to just shoot and edit for creativity sake. Well, all “shoot for pay” gigs make TT Coles a boring gal! It’s time for me to come up with some interesting projects that I can have fun with. Stay tuned! In the meantime, let’s re-visit some of my older images.

I just want to share some images that I shot a loooooooong time ago, maybe about a year and a half ago to be a little more precise. Anyway, I never publicly shared this series (with the exception of one photo}. I was a little insecure about putting it out there because:

a) I wasn’t sure that they were good enough

b) The series is unfinished

So, the reason I decided to share now is because I really do like these images. Had I taken on this venture now as opposed to then, I would’ve put more effort into the concept and photographed tons of people (as I’m typing, I’m thinking to myself that this is still not off the table…)

At any rate, take a looksee…hope you enjoy.

Ok, so those that have seen HaJ and I around town have thought to themselves, “I didn’t know TT had a twin” and and to be completely honest, I DON’T! I am a firm believer that my friend HaJ, owner of Tickles.TV is a bona fide familial Tribes-woman. Even though her father is not mine and my mother is not hers, she and I are related in some shape or fashion…I mean we have to be. Why else would we do dumb shit like, finish each others sentences or show up to an event wearing the same exact color scheme, OR equally have a fascination/obsession with feather tattoos and fingernail polish…I mean, it’s crazy…the list goes on! In my logical mind, I think there are only so many ways that genes can be arranged and re-arranged before you start repeating patterns (kinda like phone numbers…for all the millions of people with a telephone, there are some that have the SAME number)…well anyhoo, I think I found my repeat pattern, my real life Doppelganger…

At any rate, we had a fun shoot!
